Dental software compatible with CS Imaging: X-rays in the patient file
On this page

If your clinic uses CS Imaging, you know the scene. The patient is in the chair, the dentist wants to see the X-ray from two years ago, and someone has to go to the CS Imaging computer, type the name, pick between three patients with the same surname and open the gallery. Meanwhile, the front desk has no way of knowing whether that patient had an X-ray last time.

Since October 2026, Dently is compatible with CS Imaging, the X-ray software from Carestream Dental. This article explains exactly what that compatibility does, what you need and what stays the same.

What does it mean for dental software to be compatible with CS Imaging?

In Dently it means two concrete things:

  1. You open the patient in CS Imaging from their file. The patient file has a “View in CS Imaging” button. Click it and CS Imaging opens that patient’s gallery. Nobody has to type their name again or find them in a list.
  2. Their X-rays are stored in their file. Everything in CS Imaging is stored automatically in the patient’s X-rays tab in Dently, where you can see it without opening another program.

It is not an export feature or a file someone has to upload. It works on its own in the background while the clinic works.

How do CS Imaging X-rays reach the patient file?

On the clinic computer that has CS Imaging you install the Dently Connector, a small program that acts as a bridge. Every minute it checks for new X-rays and uploads them to the right patient file.

What that means day to day:

  • Older X-rays are uploaded too. When you connect the computer, everything already in CS Imaging is sent. In the first clinic using it, that was more than 9,400 X-rays, none of them handled by hand.
  • New ones show up within a minute or two. The dentist takes the X-ray in CS Imaging as always and, back in the patient file, it is already there.
  • Each X-ray goes to its patient. The connector recognizes the patient by their CS Imaging number and, if needed, by name. If the clinic has more than one CS Imaging database, patients from one are never mixed with patients from another.
  • Nothing is duplicated. If an X-ray is already in Dently, it is not uploaded again.
  • You see them with their date and full screen. In the X-rays tab, click one to open it large and download the original.

What changes for the dentist and for the front desk?

For the dentist, the change is time: one click instead of searching for the patient in another program, and the X-rays next to the medical history, the tooth chart and the treatment plans. When explaining a treatment, everything is on the same screen.

For the front desk, the change is visibility. X-rays used to live on one specific computer. Now whoever answers the phone can see whether the patient had an X-ray at their last visit without leaving the desk.

And for the clinic as a whole, X-rays no longer depend on a single computer. You can see them from any browser with your user: at home the night before a surgery, from the other site or from a tablet in the treatment room. We cover this in more detail in dental software with nothing to install.

What stays the same?

It is worth saying clearly so nobody is surprised:

  • CS Imaging is still your X-ray program. X-rays are taken, reviewed and diagnosed in CS Imaging. Dently does not replace it or touch your original images.
  • There is no agreement with Carestream. Dently is compatible with CS Imaging because we built it that way, not because there is a partnership with the manufacturer.
  • You need a Windows computer with CS Imaging installed. That is where the connector goes. If the CS Imaging database lives on one computer and other treatment rooms use it over the clinic network, the full connector goes on the computer that holds the database, and the others only need the “View in CS Imaging” button.

How do you connect it, step by step?

No technician visit is needed:

  1. Ask us to turn it on: write to us from Help, inside Dently, or on WhatsApp, and we turn it on for your clinic with the Connector ready to install.
  2. Go to Settings > Integrations with an owner or admin user. You see the price there before connecting any computer.
  3. Download the Dently Connector on the computer that has CS Imaging.
  4. Dently gives you a pairing code. It works for a single computer and expires after 30 minutes, so nobody can use it later.
  5. Install the connector and enter the code. From then on, X-rays start uploading.

Inside Dently there is an eight-step guide that walks you through each screen. In the X-rays tab of any patient you also see the status of each connected computer: green when it is up to date or uploading (with the time left), red when it has lost the connection.

Is it safe for patient data?

These are fair questions when you install something on a clinic computer. What the connector does:

  • It only talks to Dently and only sends what is needed: the X-rays and the patient’s name to match them. It opens no way into your computer from outside and lets nobody connect to it.
  • It updates itself and only accepts versions signed by Dently. If a new version does not work well, it goes back to the previous one.
  • You can disconnect it at any time from Settings > Integrations, computer by computer.

X-rays are stored in Dently with the rest of the patient file, on servers in the European Union and under the same data processing agreement the clinic already signs.

How much does CS Imaging compatibility cost?

It is an optional add-on: paid monthly, per site, on the same Dently invoice, and it includes storing the X-rays based on the space they take. Once we turn it on, you see the price in Settings > Integrations before connecting any computer.

The Dently plan does not change: €50 a month per clinic plus taxes, with scheduling, patients, medical history, tooth chart, consent forms, treatment plans, invoicing and metrics included, and no per-user fee. You can find a summary of what good practice management software should include in the dental practice software guide.

Try it with your own CS Imaging

The best way to check it is with your own X-rays, not a demo. Create your account: it asks for a card, you use every feature for 14 days with no charge and, if it does not convince you, cancel in one click from Settings before it ends. Then write to us from Help and we turn on CS Imaging compatibility for your clinic.

If you would rather see it first, request a demo and we will go through it together in 20 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dently compatible with CS Imaging?
Yes. Dently is compatible with CS Imaging, the X-ray software from Carestream Dental, installed on a Windows computer. From the patient file you open their gallery in CS Imaging with one click, and the X-rays in CS Imaging are stored automatically in the X-rays tab of that file. It is technical compatibility built by Dently, not an agreement with Carestream.
Do I have to stop using CS Imaging?
No. X-rays are still taken, reviewed and diagnosed in CS Imaging, as they are today. What changes is that nobody has to look the patient up by hand in CS Imaging, and their X-rays also sit in their Dently file, where the whole clinic team can see them.
Are older X-rays uploaded too?
Yes. When you connect the computer, the X-rays already in CS Imaging are uploaded, not just new ones. In the first clinic using it, more than 9,400 X-rays were uploaded without anyone touching a single one. After that, each new X-ray shows up in the patient file within a minute or two.
Can I see the X-rays outside the clinic?
Yes. Since they are stored in Dently, you can see them from any browser with your user: at home, at another site or on a tablet in the treatment room. To take new X-rays you still need the clinic computer with CS Imaging.
How much does it cost?
It is a monthly add-on per site that goes on the same Dently invoice and includes storing the X-rays based on the space they take. It is turned on on request: write to us from Help or on WhatsApp and, once it is on, you see the price in Settings, under Integrations, before connecting any computer. The Dently plan still costs €50 a month per clinic plus taxes.
Is it safe to install the program on the clinic computer?
The program only talks to Dently and opens no way into your computer from outside. It updates itself and only accepts versions signed by Dently. You can disconnect the computer whenever you want from Settings.
